Government Jobs After 12th (2026): Every Post You Can Apply For, With Age Limits
The complete list of government jobs open to 12th pass candidates — SSC, Railways, Police, Defence and state posts — with the official age limit for each, checked against the notifications.
If you have passed Class 12, you can already apply for 42 government posts across 32 recruitment exams in our database — and for every 10th-level post as well. Most 12th pass students only hear about two or three of them.
This page lists all of them, with the upper age limit for General category candidates as printed in each official notification. If you are SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, an ex-serviceman or a widow, your limit is higher — see age relaxation in government jobs or let our free eligibility check work it out for your exact date of birth.
Best government jobs after 12th: where the big vacancies are
A handful of exams take most of the 12th-level hiring in India:
- SSC CHSL (10+2) — Lower Division Clerk, Junior Secretariat Assistant, Data Entry Operator, Postal and Sorting Assistant in central ministries. One exam, thousands of posts every year, all-India.
- Railways — RRB NTPC (Undergraduate) for clerks and ticket staff, plus Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician for 12th/ITI candidates.
- Police and paramilitary — state police constables and central armed police head constables. These add a physical test and usually have the lowest age limits.
- Defence — NDA for officer entry straight after school, and the Coast Guard for sailors.
- SSC Stenographer — Grade C and D, if you can learn shorthand.
- State subordinate services — clerks, Lekhpal, Village Development Officer, Panchayat Secretary. Many of these have far more generous age limits (up to 40 in UP and Rajasthan) than central exams.

Government jobs after 12th for girls
Every post on this list is open to women except where the age column says "(men)". A few police rows list separate age limits for men and women — in UP and Rajasthan police, for example, women get a higher upper age limit than men. Many recruiting bodies also waive the application fee for women; check the fee section of the notification before you pay.
12th pass? You can also apply for 10th-level posts
Eligibility works on the minimum qualification. Every job that asks for 10th pass is open to you too — that adds 20 more posts, including SSC MTS, SSC GD Constable and RRB Group D. See the full list in government jobs after 10th.
Commerce, Science or Arts: does your 12th stream matter?
For almost every post above, no — any stream is accepted. The exceptions are technical entries such as some Defence and scientific trainee posts that require Physics and Maths. When a post needs a specific stream, the notification says so in the eligibility section, and our eligibility check applies it automatically.
Three mistakes 12th pass candidates make
- Checking age on the wrong date. Every notification fixes an "age as on" date — often 1 January or 1 August of the exam year — and that date, not today, decides whether you are in.
- Assuming you are too young or too old without checking. Many limits are 18–27, but state posts go to 37 or 40, and the relaxations above are added on top.
- Waiting for graduation. Graduation opens more doors, but some of the best 12th-level posts — SSC CHSL and SSC Stenographer among them — have upper age limits of 27 to 30. If you wait three years, some of them close.
